Polydextrose

Polydextrose (E 1200) is a synthetic combination of glucose , sorbitol and citric acid .

The chain-shaped, sugar-like, long-chain molecule cannot be broken down by digestive enzymes and has a laxative effect on the human organism from a single dose of around 50 g or a daily dose of around 90 g .

Polydextrose is added to foods in the food industry as a carrier , filler and humectant . It is generally approved in the EU as a food additive with the designation E 1200 without maximum quantity restriction for food.
