Systematics
Class : Insects (Insecta)
Order : Butterflies (Lepidoptera)
Family : Noble butterfly (Nymphalidae)
Subfamily : Spotted butterfly (Nymphalinae)
Genre : Polygonia
Type : Polygonia interposita
Scientific name
Polygonia interposita
( Staudinger , 1881)

Polygonia interposita is a butterfly ( butterfly ) from the family of Nymphalidae (Nymphalidae), which occurs in Asia.

description

Polygonia interposita is very similar to Polygonia egea and the C-butterfly ( P. c-album ), but it has rounder incisions on the wing edge, more extensive black spots and a particularly dark border on the outer edge of both wings. The underside is very dark and the white mark on the wing tends to disappear.

Occurrence and way of life

Polygonia interposita occurs from the Ghissar to the Altai Mountains, in northwest China and in the Himalayas . The moths fly in two generations from March to October. They live in ravines and on mountain slopes up to an altitude of 2500 meters.

Systematics

Polygonia interposita was described by Staudinger in 1881 as a form of the C-butterfly ( P. c-album ). Seitz (1909) regards it as a form of Polygonia egea . Churkin raised them to species status in 2003, which is confirmed by 2009 DNA analysis . It is therefore closely related to P. c-album and more distantly related to P. egea . Since the genus Polygonia is sometimes considered a subgenus of Nymphalis , there is the synonym Nymphalis interposita .
