Pompey Urbicus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pompeius Urbicus († autumn 48 AD) was a Roman knight of the early Imperial period .

Pompey Urbicus is only mentioned by the Roman historian Tacitus in connection with the trial of the Empress Valeria Messalina . She had started a relationship with the young senator Gaius Silius and finally married him in 48 AD, which was tantamount to a divorce from her previous husband Claudius . When the emperor was informed of this by the freed man Narcissus and, under his influence, proceeded to punish his unfaithful wife and Silius, a number of other distinguished Romans, including Pompey Urbicus, were executed as accomplices.
