The Ponte del Cavallo (German: horse bridge ) is one of more than 400 bridges in Venice . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere , spans the Rio di San Lazzaro dei Mendicanti and, in addition to the Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo with the Calle Larga Giacinto Gallina, also connects the two sestieri Cannaregio and Castello . It owes its name to the equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni located in the immediate vicinity .

The bridge was used as a motif by the British painter Charles John Watson , among others .
