List of bridges in Venice
There are around 435 bridges in Venice , only a few of which have their own names.
The bridges are an essential element of inner-city pedestrian traffic, as they, in addition to the gondola and vaporetto, connect the around 120 islands that make up the city. Their actual traffic routes are traditionally the network of canals (Italian canali, singular canale) and the smaller rii (singular rio), here the term waterways in Venice is used as a generic term .

Terra ferma
The connection to the Terraferma is formed by the railway bridge from 1842, which was built in 1935 to provide access to Venice by car; the Freedom Bridge, renamed in 1945 after the liberation from fascism (original name: Ponte Littorio).
