Ponte della Paglia

Ponte della Paglia

The Ponte della Paglia is a bridge in Venice in the San Marco sestiere . It spans the Rio de Palazzo o de la Canonica and connects the Molo San Marco with the Riva degli Schiavoni . It owes its name to the boats laden with straw that moored here and whose existence is known from various laws and decrees of the republic.

There is such a crowd on the bridge on days with a high number of tourists that the bridge had to be temporarily closed. From the Ponte della Paglia you have a direct view of the Bridge of Sighs . The bridge was renewed between 1840 and 1844 and doubled in width.
