Ponte degli Scalzi

The Ponte degli Scalzi is a bridge in Venice in the Sestiere Cannaregio , which spans the Grand Canal and connects the Fondamenta San Simeòn Piccolo with the Fondamenta degli Scalzi and the Sestieri Santa Croce with Cannaregio. The bridge is named after the nearby Scalzi Church .

The Scalzi is one of the most popular bridges in Venice. In the immediate vicinity is the main train station S. Lucia , not far from the southern entrance is the Piazzale Roma with the bus station. Next to the bridge is the Ferrovia stop, which is served by Vaporetto and Motoscafi. Lines 1, 2, 3, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2 and ACTV night line N stop at the stop .

The first iron bridge construction was built in 1858 by the kuk administration. Between 1932 and 1934 it was replaced by a bridge made of Istrian limestone by engineer Eugenio Miozzi , who also designed the two other bridges, the Ponte dell'Accademia and the Ponte della Libertà .

The Scalzi is the turning point for the Regata storica , which takes place every year on the first Sunday in September .
