Ponte dei Bareteri

The Ponte dei Bareteri is a bridge in Venice in the Sestiere San Marco , which spans the Rio dei Bareteri and connects the Marzaria del Capitello in the north with the Merceria Zulian (south, part of the main island of San Marco ).

It owes its name to the resident hat and cap makers (Italian: Baretteri ) who were already active here in the early 14th century.

The original bridge, which can be traced back to 1315, was, like many others in Venice, made of wood. As Sanudo reports in his diarii (Italian, German diaries), it was replaced by a stone bridge in 1508.
