Vertically perforated brick

Poroton is a building material brand for porous perforated bricks and brick systems.

Manufacturing

The process is characterized in that when processing clay and other raw materials, small balls made of plastic ( e.g. polystyrene ) are mixed in, which evaporate during the firing process and leave behind corresponding air-filled cavities. The porosity of the brick material caused by these cavities leads to a lower weight and better thermal insulation .

history

The porous brick was developed by the Swedish engineer Sven Fernhof in 1958. He applied for a patent for the fine porosity of the ceramic body with tiny styrofoam spheres.

In Germany, the Poroton brand was registered on June 20, 1966. Poroton is a protected trademark of the Oltmanns company, which was taken over by Wienerberger AG after its bankruptcy in 1986. Oltmanns made the Poroton trademark available to the inventor of porous clay, Sven Fernhof, for marketing in the Poroton interest group formed in 1968. The term Poroton was as at 29 May 1974 trademarks ( trademark ) entered for the Association of Poroton Manufacturers' Association. The trademark still belongs to today's association Deutsche Poroton .

The Poroton interest group, today's Deutsche Poroton GmbH, was set up to market the product. The development and marketing of the Poroton light brick began in 1969. The heat-insulating light bricks enable a monolithic brick construction to build outer walls. The first licensees were the companies Deplaz, Schlagmann, Bott and JUWÖ.

Increasing demands on structural thermal insulation led to continuous further development. Whereas the calculated value of the thermal conductivity at the beginning of 1970 was around 0.40 W / (m K), today highly heat-insulating Poroton bricks have values of 0.07 W / (m K) (Poroton T7-P).

There are 26 Poroton approvals as well as eight patents and utility models. In Germany, 335 different Poroton product types are manufactured in 15 plants with a total of around 1,750 employees.

Association members are allowed to use a patent granted for the Poroton process on the basis of a license agreement and have a right to use the Poroton trademark for the products manufactured according to this.

The brand name is a combination of the words “porous clay ”.
