The Porte de Paris is a gate built between 1685 and 1692 in the former city ​​wall of Lille . It symbolizes the annexation of Lille to France .

The Porte des Malades (Gate of the Sick) originally stood at this location

After the siege of Lille, Louis XIV entered the city on August 28, 1667. He went through this gate to get the keys to the city. A year later the city became French through the Peace of Aachen (1668) .

Louis XIV ordered the construction of the gate from Simon Vollant to replace the old gate of the sick. It was built between 1685 and 1692 .
