Southern round tower

The Porte de Provins in Donnemarie , a district of the French commune of Donnemarie-Dontilly in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region , was built in the 16th century. The gate is the only visible remnant of the former fortification, which was allowed to be built by the decision of King Francis I on December 28, 1544.

The fortification had four gates and 20 towers along the fortification wall . The Porte de Provins was the eastern entrance to the place. From here a road leads to Provins .

Two round towers have been preserved from the Porte de Provins . The northern one is integrated into a residential building, the southern one has been preserved as a ruin without a roof.
