Postcode (Greece)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In early 1983 the postcode was introduced in Greece by the Greek Post Office ELTA . The Greek postcode consists of five digits. The first two digits denote the region, the last three digits the town or district.

Internally, the postcodes are divided into three categories:

  • Category A (towns with multiple postcodes)
  • Category B (towns with a postcode)
  • Organizations or companies with their own zip code

history

An older system was replaced in which the place name was followed by three digits. The division roughly follows the districts on the date of introduction.
