from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Post Check Office in Königsberg was a post check office in East Prussia's provincial capital, Königsberg .

The postal check operation of the Deutsche Reichspost began on January 1, 1909. Initially, East Prussia was part of the Gdansk postal check office. On July 1, 1916, the Königsberg postal check office was set up for the OPD districts of Königsberg and Gumbinnen.

It started with 2,325 postal check customers who were served first in the main post office building on Poststrasse, then in rented rooms on Schönstrasse opposite Post Office 8. In 1924, the construction of a separate building began on the Deutschordenring at the corner of Kniprodestrasse. At the beginning of 1926, the massive authorities building was occupied. In 1928 the PSA Königsberg already had 18,000 postal check customers. The building survived the air raids on Königsberg . A timely relocation was not possible in the battle for Königsberg . The offices were destroyed with all the documents. The building was preserved.
