The Potez 840 was a four-engine French business jet from the 1960s with turboprop engines . Of the machine designed for eighteen passengers, only eight copies were completed. The lack of demand meant the end of the manufacturer Potez .

history

The first flight of the prototype took place on April 29, 1961. A more powerful second aircraft was completed in June 1962 and then went on a sales tour to North America. Since the hoped-for orders did not materialize, only two more prototypes were built instead of the planned 25 machines. Shortly thereafter, two improved aircraft with modified engines and the designation Potez 841 followed . Both flew with Aero-Dienst in Germany for several years before they were sold to the USA. In 1965 and 1967 the last two copies were made as Potez 842 .

construction

The Potez 840 was an all-metal aircraft that was designed as a self - supporting low - wing aircraft and had a retractable landing gear. In addition to three crew members, it offered space for eighteen passengers.

The drive consisted of four turboprop engines attached to the front of the wings. The first prototype had the 328 kW Turboméca Astazou II, from the second model the Astazou XII with 447 kW was available. The Potez 841, on the other hand, received four Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 A-6 engines, each with 417 kW of power. The version 842 again received modified Astazou engines.
