Potsdam Initiative

The Potsdam initiative was decided on March 16, 2007 at the G8 Environment Ministers' Conference in Potsdam .

The aim of the initiative is to curb the further global extinction of species . Around 150 species are currently irretrievably lost every day . The G8 countries (USA, Canada, Japan, France, Great Britain, Italy, Germany and Russia) and five large emerging countries (China, India, Brazil, Mexico and South Africa) agreed to work together to combat species loss.
