ICD-10 online (WHO version 2019) |
The Pott fracture is a fracture of the (his own) lower leg described by Sir Percivell Pott in 1769 . He described this fracture as the most common type of all ankle fracture . Nowadays the term Pott fracture is no longer used because the described form of ankle fracture occurs very rarely. In the English-speaking world, the term Pott's fracture is used today for a bimalleolar fracture.
Clinical manifestations
The fibula breaks above the tibiofibular syndesmosis . This remains intact. However, the delta ligament, the inner ligament at the upper ankle joint , ruptures (tears) so that the ankle bone tilts laterally.
treatment
The therapy takes place according to the current rules of osteosynthesis and the torn ligaments are also treated surgically , depending on the patient also conservatively . The acute treatment is followed by a physiotherapeutic build-up , which after about 6 weeks of partial relief of the affected leg can then turn into full weight bearing.
