Povilas Tautvaišas

Povilas Tautvaišas ( Paul Tautvaisas; Tautvaisis ) (born May 6, 1916 in Mogilev , † November 1980 in Chicago ) was a Lithuanian and American chess player.

Life

In 1934 Tautvaišas graduated from Mažeikiai grammar school and studied law at the Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas in Kaunas . Tautvaišas was a Lithuanian individual champion. With the Lithuanian team took part in the unofficial Chess Olympiad Chess Olympia 1936 and the Chess Olympiad 1939 . Tautvaišas returned to his homeland after the 1939 Chess Olympiad, but fled to Germany towards the end of the Second World War and emigrated to the United States in 1949 .

His father was Povilas Tautvaišas, a doctor, coroner and pathologist. His mother was Sofija Petrauskaitė.
