Pow Wow Smith
Pow Wow Smith is the title of a series of western comics published by the US publisher DC since 1949.
Pow Wow Smith deals with the experiences of Ohiyesa Smith, called Pow Wow, the sheriff of a small American town in the Midwest of the United States . An unusual aspect - especially for the time the comic was created - is Smith's origins as a Sioux Indian . After the first stories in the series had taken place in the middle of the 20th century, the plot was moved back in later editions without comment by a century, to the time of the Wild West.
The first Pow Wow Smith story appeared in issue # 151 of the Detective Comics series in September 1949 , where it remained the series' only western feature for several years. The author of the story in question and spiritual father of the series was the writer Don Cameron. Carmine Infantino acted as the draftsman of the first Pow Wow Smith story and thus significantly shaped the appearance of the figure. Pow Wow Smith was later moved to the Western Comics series , where the series' stories appeared until 1961. In 1970, another story in the series appeared in the first edition of the All-Star Western series .
Pow Wow Smith also appeared (dubbed Jonathan Joss ) as the lead character in an episode of Justice League Unlimited.
