Powell Basin

The Powell Basin is a lake basin in the Antarctic Weddell Sea . It is located southwest of the South Orkney Islands .
The namesake, which was confirmed in October 1977 by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF), is named after the British sealer captain George Powell (1794-1824), who discovered the South Orkney Islands in 1821.
