The Power Macintosh 8200/100, introduced in April 1996

The Power Macintosh 8200 (code name: "Catalyst") is a personal computer company Apple and belongs to the Power Macintosh series. It is a revised edition of the Power Macintosh 7200 and was only delivered in a tower case. Because of its base, it belongs to the 7200 model series. The target group was graphic designers, agencies and printers who wanted to acquire a more sophisticated mid-range computer at a relatively low price. The Power Macintosh 8200 was only sold in Europe.

With the introduction of the 8200, Apple discontinued all types of the 7200. The only exception was the 90 MHz model with four CD-ROM drives.

The 8200 was offered in two performance variants. Both PCI Macs had the proven Motorola PowerPC 601 main processor . The 8200/100 had 8 MB RAM without L2 cache, the 8200/120 had 16 MB RAM and 256 KB L2 cache. Since the processor is soldered to the motherboard , replacement is difficult.

The computers were delivered with the macOS 7.5.3 system and can be upgraded to MacOS 9.1.

As with the 7200, the housing is very easily accessible, and the various slots allow various upgrading.
