Pregenital

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pregenital is a term used in psychoanalysis . In Freud's drive theory , the oral, anal and phallic phases are referred to as the pregenital or preoedipal phase . This pregenital phase is followed by the first genital phase, in which the partial drives are first integrated into a superordinate pattern of action. This development is known as genitalization . Then there is a latency period and only then does physical sexuality develop in the second genital phase. See: partial drive.
