The Saga Prefecture Museum ( Japanese 佐賀 県 立 博物館 , Saga Kenritsu Hakubutsukan ) was built in 1970 in the outer area of the palace area of the Japanese city of Saga on the centenary of the beginning of the Meiji period .
The permanent exhibition shows objects on natural history, archeology, history, art, handicrafts and the folk life of the prefecture, which roughly coincides with the previous fiefdom of the Nabeshima family . Admission is free, with the exception of special exhibitions. The museum's annual reports on the activities and special exhibitions are freely available in the form of PDF files.
In the immediate vicinity is the Saga Prefectural Art Museum ( 佐賀 県 立 美術館 , Saga Kenritsu Bijutsukan ), which was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the centenary of the prefecture.
