The preconception or prefertilisation is a genetic engineering method to at artificial insemination genetic defects to recognize order to decide on whether the zygote to be implanted in the uterus.

According to its methodical approach, it is also referred to as polar body diagnosis . In this procedure, shortly after the sperm has penetrated the egg cell , but before the cell nuclei fuse, the polar bodies of the egg cell are removed (polar body biopsy) and used for genetic diagnosis. The disadvantage of this method is that the examination is limited to the genetic makeup of the egg cell (the mother).
