President Vargas

The Presidente Vargas is one of the largest diamonds and is the largest rough diamond ever found in Brazil . Its namesake was Getúlio Vargas , the then President of Brazil.

The diamond was found in 1938 in the San Antonio River, Coromandel Municipality, Minas Gerais , and weighed 726.8  ct. (145.36 g).

In 1941 it was ground into 29 stones (the larger ones in the emerald cut), which together weighed 411 ct. (82.2 g).
