Prêmio Angelo Agostini

Prêmio Angelo Agostini (German Angelo Agostini Prize ) is the most traditional comic prize in Brazil . It was founded in 1985 by the Associação dos Quadrinhistas e Caricaturistas do Estado de São Paulo (AQC-ESP), which still organizes the event today. The name of the award pays homage to Angelo Agostini , who is considered the pioneer of Brazilian comics.

In its first year, the Prêmio Angelo Agostini only had the category “Mestre do quadrinho nacional” (“Masters of National Comics”) to highlight Brazilian comic professionals who had worked with comics for at least 25 years. The following year, the organizers began their categories around Draftsman, Author and New Publication Awards.

Currently (2019) the award has ten categories, including the Jayme Cortez Trophy, which is named after the Luso-Brazilian comic artist Jayme Cortez , which is intended to reward great contributions to Brazilian comics and to organizations such as ensembles, events or artists can.

The winners of the Prêmio Angelo Agostini will be selected in the year before the award ceremony by AQC-ESP on the basis of Brazilian comic production.
