Franz Erdmann Konrad von Uthmann (born March 30, 1790 in Obermahliau, Trebnitz district , † January 26, 1861 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Erdmann was a member of the Silesian noble family von Uthmann and the son of the Prussian prime lieutenant a. D. and Mr. auf Obermahliau Hans Friedrich von Uthmann (1749–1804) and his wife Johanna Friederike Sophie, née von Fehrentheil and Gruppenberg (1752–1808).

Military career

Uthmann entered on May 26, 1802 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Malschitzky" of the Prussian army . He was promoted to Portepeefähnrich at the beginning of April 1805 , took part in the Battle of Auerstedt during the Fourth Coalition War and came on the retreat to Magdeburg , where Uthmann was made inactive after a short prisoner of war. On November 4, 1807, he joined the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment as an ensign . In mid-December 1809 he received his farewell as second lieutenant .

Uthmann returns to the army and was taken on May 19, 1812 as an aggregated second lieutenant in the engineer corps . During the Wars of Liberation , he was at the sieges of Erfurt , Maubeuge , Landrecies , Philippeville , Rocroi , Givet and the defense of Vitry. He was in the battles near Bautzen , Dresden and Leipzig , where he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class. Uthmann fought in the battles near Dippoldiswalde, Nollendorf, Etoges, Jeanvillers and Namur. On June 3, 1814, he became Premier Lieutenant and leader of the 7th Field Engineer Company. In 1815 he also acquired the Iron Cross First Class from Belle Alliance .

On April 20, 1816, he was promoted to Captain II. Class and engineering officer of the court in Thionville . In the same capacity he worked from April 1, 1817 to February 2, 1818 in Schweidnitz and then in Cologne . There he was promoted to captain 1st class at the 3rd engineer inspection in mid-September. On April 27, 1822 he became an engineer officer from the square in Minden and in this position on June 25, 1829 major . On December 21, 1837, Uthmann was commissioned to take over the business as the inspector of the 1st Rhenish engineering inspection, before he was appointed inspector on May 19, 1838. At the end of March 1840 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 31, 1842, he was appointed inspector to the 3rd pioneer inspection. On April 7, 1842 he was promoted to colonel and on October 11, 1842 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. He last came to the 6th Fortress Inspectorate on November 26, 1843. On March 13, 1847, Uthmann received his retirement and retirement, conferring the character of major general . He died in Wiesbaden on January 26, 1861.
