Ferentheil and Gruppenberg , also Fehrentheil or Ferentheil-Gruppenberg , is the name of a Bohemian - Silesian , and ultimately Prussian, noble family .

history

The gender has its origins in Bohemia. Emperor Maximilian II awarded Hans Ferentheil, Rittmeister in the "Duke of Mercoeur" dragoon regiment, the Bohemian nobility on March 7, 1576. Emperor Rudolf II granted him the Bohemian knighthood on May 10, 1601. The secure and continuous line of the family begins with him . During the Thirty Years' War the family moved to Silesia and later spread to Transylvania as well . Friedrich Wilhelm von Ferentheil and Gruppenberg (1646–1696) received on January 2, 1694 from Emperor Leopold I confirmation of the knighthood including confirmation of the coat of arms and the Moravian incolate . With his five sons, the family was divided into five lines. Some of the members of the 2nd line (Groß Breesen-Esdorf) called themselves Fehrentheil. The 3rd and 5th line were already extinguished around 1800.
