Prague Society for International Cooperation

The Prague Society for International Cooperation is an international non-governmental organization based in Prague . It was founded in 1999 and emerged from the Czechoslovak underground movement that opposed the regime during the repressive period of communism. The honorary chairman is Nobel Peace Prize laureate Frederik Willem de Klerk .

activity

The purpose is to build up civil society in the former Warsaw Pact states of Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to the re-establishment of this civil society, the activities of the Prague Society also aim to develop a new political and economic leadership elite that is committed to democratic values.

To this end, the association initiated u. a. the “Transatlantic Drift Debate” in collaboration with the American Foreign Policy Council. The aim of this initiative is to promote the exchange of ideas and strategies on current geopolitical issues between North America, the EU and the new democracies in Central and Eastern Europe.

Charity

In addition to promoting young people and supporting non-profit institutions, the association has been awarding the Hanno R. Ellenbogen Citizenship Award since 2000 in cooperation with the Global Panel Foundation , as an award for special social services to Central and Eastern Europe. Previous winners include a. Michael I of Romania and Miloš Forman .
