Carnota Beach
Praia de Carnota is a beach on the Costa da Morte in the municipality of Carnota in the A Coruña province in Spain . With more than seven kilometers in length, it is the longest beach in Galicia .
At low tide , the beach is more than 500 meters wide in some places. A large number of migratory birds live on its inner beach lagoon and the associated swamps . The area is particularly at risk from the consequences of the oil spill caused by the oil tanker Prestige , which sank in 2002 and which has led to a noticeable deterioration in ecological conditions in recent years.
Carnota beach and Monte Pindo on the north side of the bay form a nature reserve in the Natura 2000 network . The area is a total of 4629 hectares and extends over the concellos of Carnota, Mazaricos, Cee and Dumbría between the Ría of Corcubión in the north and the Ría de Muros e Noia .
