The Praktica LTL 2 is a single-lens reflex camera from the camera manufacturer VEB Pentacon Dresden and was manufactured from August 1975 to October 1978 in a number of slightly more than 15,000 units.

General

Measuring circuit of the Praktica LTL2, two silicon and one germanium transistor, display by miniature light bulbs.

As the successor to the Praktica LTL , like this one, it has interior light measurement with a work panel. In order to be able to do without the mechanically complex and shock-sensitive moving coil instrument, the LTL 2 received an electronic exposure compensation instead of the previous measuring needle.

For this purpose there are two green light fields in the viewfinder, which become visible when the measurement button is pressed. The lower light field serves as a reference field with constant luminance. The luminance of the upper luminous field, on the other hand, is variable and is influenced by the respective setting of the exposure time or the aperture. The correct exposure adjustment is achieved as soon as both light fields have the same luminance (that is, they are "equally bright"). To operate this interior light measurement, a PX 21 battery with 4.5  V or alternatively three single cells LR 50 with 1.5 V each is required.

This form of exposure measurement by comparing the brightness of two luminous fields later turned out to be impractical, since a continuous change in luminance is not particularly suitable as a setting criterion for the human eye. This probably explains the small number of units of this variant of the Praktica L series. The electronic implementation with individual transistors , miniature light bulbs and rigid circuit boards was also no longer up to the technical standard of international camera construction. The principle of exposure compensation using light signals was therefore later taken up again in the Praktica DTL 3, which can be seen as a successor model and which, with its flexible printed circuit board and LED display, was much more contemporary. In addition, the continuous change in luminance of the display fields was replaced by "jumping" switching, which made the exposure adjustment much more user-friendly.
