Pression (laughing man)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pression for a cellist is a composition by Helmut Lachenmann . Dedication: “For Werner Taube”, first performance: September 30, 1970 in Como by Italo Gomez.

The work was created between 1969 and 1970, graphically notated (action drawings in space notation ), takes just under 9 minutes and contains a wealth of new playing techniques. "The pressure conditions for sound actions on the cello are modified and composed here." The pressure varies from very light to overpressed, the normal "ordinario" line only appears in one place. The entire instrument is knocked off, rubbed, brushed. You can strike not only with the right hand, but also with the left (along the strings or the bow).

In 2010 Helmut Lachenmann created a new version of Pression .

Like Guero and Dal niente , it is a study for extended instrument use.
