Press water (fluid mechanics)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In various technical terms, press water refers to a turbulent flow form that is caused when flowing water hits an obstacle and cannot flow around it in a laminar manner or with the help of another evasive flow form.

In water sports, the term is mainly used when the water surface breaks up and the increased pressure is diverted as a result. For swimmers or boaters, there is a particular risk of being pushed in front of the obstacle by the current with great force without the current showing a way out.
