End of the sound |
The Prins Christian Sund ( Greenlandic : Ikerassuaq) belongs to Greenland and separates the offshore archipelago with Cape Farvel from the mainland. The sound connects the Labrador Sea in the west with the Irminger Sea in the east. The strait is about 100 kilometers long, and the shores are sometimes over 1000 meters high. Several glaciers reach the sound, into which numerous waterfalls flow. In the middle of the sound is the village of Aappilattoq , where about 100 Inuit live who fish and hunt there.
For tourist reasons, the sound is often crossed by cruise ships .
