Priorslynn Farm

The Priorslynn Farm is a farm in the Scottish village of Canonbie in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1971, the farmhouse and stables were included as an ensemble in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B. The barn at Priorslynn Farm, on the other hand, is a monument of the highest monument category A.

description

The property is located on the B7201 on the southern edge of Canonbie. The nucleus is a courtyard from the 18th century. The current farmhouse was added around 1840. The masonry consists of roughly hewn quarry stone, which was built into an irregular layered masonry . Pilasters flank the central entrance area on the south-east facing front. The wooden door closes with a fighter window . Twelve-part lattice windows are installed along the facade . The north-west facade is designed asymmetrically. The farmhouse closes with slate roofs.

The one-story stables with expanded storage grew in several construction phases to their present appearance. A segment arched doorway leads into the courtyard. The openings leading to the storage facilities are largely closed today.

barn

To the west of the farmhouse is the barn. It occupies an area of 17.3 m × 4.42 m and was probably built as a Cruck construction in the second half of the 18th century. Buildings in this once common construction are rarely preserved today and the barn at Priorslynn Farm is unique in the region. The outer walls are made of clay, gravel and straw and have been repaired in various places with rubble. The five crucks with lengths between 2.34 m and 2.79 m rest on stone foundations. The middle cruck pair is integrated into the inner wall. The western area has a paved floor, while the eastern area has compacted soil. The original thatched roof has meanwhile been replaced by a corrugated iron roof.

In 1999 the barn was placed on the Scotland List of Endangered Listed Structures. In 2014, their condition was classified as very poor and at the same time at high risk of deterioration.
