Privacy Commissioner of Canada

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada (French: Commissaire à la protection de la vie privée du Canada ) is Canada's national data protection authority.

He is independent from the government and reports directly to the House of Representatives and the Senate . The official seat is Gatineau . In addition to the person of the Privacy Commissioner, the agency has two assistants.

The Privacy Commissioner's job is to protect the personal rights of Canadian citizens. To this end, he investigates complaints, publishes information about data protection practices and conducts public relations work.

Acting data protection officer is Daniel Therrien. Since February 2004, the data protection authority has also had an external advisory body.

The Privacy Commissioner of Canada is a member of the International Conference of Commissioners for Data Protection and the Protection of Privacy and is represented there by Jennifer Stoddart.
