The private brewery Gebr. Mayer is a brewery in the old town of the Ludwigshafen district of Oggersheim . It is the oldest brewery in the Palatinate and the longest-running company in Ludwigshafen.

history

Christian Ludwig Christ set up a small brewery for the first time along Kreuzgasse in 1846. One of Christ's daughters married Carl Daniel Mayer from Alzey and he joined as a partner in 1866. The brewery was named Christ & Mayer. In 1872 Christ & Mayer was dissolved and the brewery was continued jointly by Carl Daniel Mayer and his brother Fritz Mayer (1848–1899) as the Mayer Brothers, so that the brewery has been called the Mayer Brothers ever since.

The brothers Heinrich Mayer (1876–1955), Wilhelm Mayer (1877–1931) and Albert Mayer (1879–1929) were managing partners of the brewery from 1904 to 1929. In 1929 Hans Mayer (1908–1964), son of Willy Mayer, got on board and in 1933 Fritz Mayer (1907–1955), son of Albert Mayer. In the 1960s, Hans-Dieter (son of Hans Mayer) and Hans-Gerd Mayer (son of Fritz Mayer) took over the company.

The current management is held by the brothers Frank and Hans-Jörg Mayer. The Mayer beers are mainly available in the Ludwigshafen area. For environmental reasons, the beer is only bottled in reusable containers. Today a total of 17 types of beer are produced. The most popular variety is the cellar beer . The Pilsener received the DLG Golden Prize in 2011 . The latest varieties are the Pfalzstoff introduced in 2011 and the alcohol-free wheat .

For over 20 years, the brewery has been holding its courtyard party with a large marquee and live music on its company premises on the second weekend in May. There are also several jazz matinees in the beer garden as part of the Ludwigshafen cultural summer.

Others

The brewery is a member of the Brauring , a cooperation between private breweries from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
