Private clinic in Mariagrün
The sanatorium ( private clinic in Mariagrün ), which was founded in 1885 on the Rosenberg in Graz, was a model private clinic for the time. Richard von Krafft-Ebing made it well known far beyond the national borders of the time. This sanatorium occupies a special position in the biography of its founder for the history of medicine.
Personalities, especially the aristocracy, were there for treatment, as a companion to patients or for visits.
As a “Prospect of the sanatorium Maria Grün next Graz” from 1899 can be seen, the sanatorium has the purpose “to offer nerve sufferers from the higher classes of society everything that is necessary for their care and healing according to the current state of medical science is required. If the mentally disturbed is absolutely excluded, the sanatorium sets itself the task of practically realizing what the founder Hofrath Professor Freiherr v. Krafft-Ebing, in his book “About healthy and sick nerves” (4th edition at Laupp in Tübingen), described the requirements for the successful treatment of nervous patients. The various disease states of neurasthenia ( hypochondria ), hysteria , nervous exhaustion and irritation after acute severe illnesses, puerperium, etc., as well as affections of the peripheral nerves (neuralgia, spinal irritation, etc.) are especially suitable for recording . Withdrawal treatments for morphinism, cocainism and other chronic intoxications are also carried out. "
After the death of Richard Freiherrn von Krafft-Ebing († 1902), the sanatorium was structurally expanded in 1903 and remained as a sanatorium until the end of the 1920s. Hugo Gugl, Anton Stichl and Hermann Albrecht were the leading doctors.
