Private clinic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A private clinic is a clinic run by a private operator or - according to the less common understanding of the term - for private customers. It can also be both, i.e. a hospital run by a private company that offers services for contractual partners associated with it under private law.

Private clinics

Most of the time, the term refers to a clinic operated commercially by an entrepreneur, which therefore has no public or non-profit organization and serves to generate profit.

history

University professors often had their own private clinic in addition to their work at a university clinic.

Situation in Germany

In 2012, there were 579 privately owned and publicly owned 510 hospitals as well as 603 non-profit hospitals in Germany.

The operator of a private hospital , a private maternity hospital or a mental health clinic requires a license , i.e. an official permit, which is to be denied in the event of personal unreliability, inadequate medical or nursing care for patients or in the event of structural hazards.

Clinics for private individuals

The term private clinic is often understood to mean a clinic , analogous to a private practice , which is only open to private patients and self-payers because the statutory health insurance has not granted it a health insurance license and therefore does not pay for inpatient stays for its insured members. Since it is mostly in private hands at the same time, these private patient clinics are practically a subgroup of the private clinic as defined above. Thanks to an often higher remuneration from private health insurances or because of their market orientation towards wealthy patients, these houses usually offer a higher level of comfort such as single rooms and a higher level of personal care. As a result, houses that want to signal that only private patients are cared for in a special environment operate as private clinics.

In individual cases, however, treatment of legally insured persons is also possible here. This requires a special permit from the insurance company or an agreement between the clinic and individual health insurers.
