The Privileged Rifle Guild of Cöthen from 1443 is a shooting club in the city of Köthen in Saxony-Anhalt.

Shooting takes place according to the rules of the German Rifle Federation or the State Rifle Association of Saxony-Anhalt.

history

The first riflemen in Köthen are mentioned in a document in 1421, the first bill for powder, lead and beer can be dated to 1443. The name of the club has been adjusted accordingly, and the Köthener Schützengilde sees itself in the tradition of the oldest German rifle associations. In 1723 Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Köthen granted the Schützen the privilege of serving beer by decree.

Foundation of the association

On November 14, 1991, some people from Koethen interested in shooting met to found a shooting club. After 40 years of the GDR and GST shooting for predominantly pre-military purposes, the illusion was given that in a city with a long shooting tradition and a former shooting range, a shooting range and a small-caliber shooting range, it couldn't be so difficult.

As the new owner of the site, the city saw no basis for the return of the club's property, which had been expropriated in 1945. The rifle house leaseholder was a member of the NSDAP . The German Schützenbund saw no way to help either. A few years ago, a residential estate was built on the site, which was used as a fish factory in the GDR era. In 1995 the members of the rifle guild acquired the new site in the excavation area from the city after a contribution of 1000.00 DM each.

Shooting range and shooting range

The old Köthen shooting range for target supports was at Schützenplatz. In 1992, the expansion of the leased small bore shooting range in the "Baggerkiete Köthen" on the Güterseeweg for large-caliber weapons began.

In the short term, the facility was converted into a 25-meter large-caliber stand, a 50-meter stand with a running boar and a 50-meter small bore stand with target pulling systems and training facilities for the biathletes . After the completion of the trap / rabbit stand in 1997, the construction of a new rifle house with a hall for over 100 guests, with modern sanitary facilities, air rifle stand and storage hall was completed in 1999. Since 2010, the trap stand , which was expanded with the help of the Köthen District Hunters' Association, has also been used as a mini-course. In 2001 a 100-meter stand with four lanes was added.

For the biathletes the training conditions, e.g. B. by paving the access road as a running track for summer biathlon, improved.

Events

In addition to various shooting competitions, the shooting festival traditionally takes place on the last weekend in June every year.
