Pro pinball: timeshock!

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Timeshock! is a pinball - computer game , it was developed by Cunning Development developed, and in 1997 by Empire Interactive published. It is the second game in the Pro Pinball series and is about a journey through time .

theme

The game is about an experiment with a time crystal in the future, but the attempt fails, the time crystal shatters into four parts, each of which is scattered over four time epochs. In addition, a time wave is triggered (in English: timeshock ), this moves towards the origin of time, as soon as the wave reaches the origin, the universe would be destroyed. To prevent this from happening, the player must travel through the four time eras (the present, the future, the Roman age, and the prehistoric age) to find the four fragments of the time crystal. So that he can travel to all time zones, he has to charge the time machine and collect a certain substance, the so-called tachyonium, which he can collect by completing missions on continents. When he has all four fragments, he can travel to the beginning of time, there he still has 120 seconds to put the fragments together. If he succeeds, the time wave is stopped; if he does not, the universe is destroyed. If the character succeeds, he can then travel to the end of time under certain conditions, there he has 60 seconds, and can collect more than 1 billion points in this time, which is a lot for this pinball machine.

There is also the possibility of collecting five souvenirs in each time zone. In the present this is z. B. a magnet, in the prehistoric age z. B. the first wheel.

The game

Like almost all pinball machines, Timeshock also has outlanes, lanes on which the ball disappears past the pinball machines, and other well-known features such as the right and left orbit can be found with Timeshock, but Timeshock still has two ramps and a middle one Orbit.

Normal game mode

When the player starts the game, unless otherwise set, he starts in the time zone The Present Day , but there are also The distant future , Ancient Rome and The prehistoric Age . Each time zone has different missions (two each), and different "souvenirs" that can be collected. The aim of the game is now to successfully complete both missions in each of the two time zones (the player does not have to do this, a total of three successful missions are enough), to collect the respective fragment of the time zone and to travel to the next one. If you have made all these time zones, the player can travel to The Dawn of the Time , there he has 120 seconds to rearrange all the fragments and thereby save the universe. As long as he has completed all missions and saved the universe, the player can travel to a time zone called The End of Time , this name will only be announced when the universe has been saved, before this time zone is only ever known as The Unknown known. In this time zone the player has one minute, if he manages more than a billion points in this time, he gets an extra ball. Collecting points is relatively easy here, since all modes are activated, i. H. the player receives one million points for each pinball contact that he touches. As soon as he has completed this time zone, he will keep his score, but the story of the pinball starts again, so he must save the universe again.

Special elements

This pinball machine also has special functions that cannot be found in most pinball machines.

Lucky

The lucky function is located on the left outlane, it is a flap, and if the ball passes through it when entering the outlane, the player receives 5 million points. The bullet does not pass this flap very often, but it can be achieved with a table push. However, you have to be careful, because like many other pinball machines, Timeshock has a tilt mechanism. Although this can be adjusted using the operating menu, it cannot be deactivated in Timeshock.

Magnosave

On the right outlane there is the so-called Magnosave , if it is activated, and if you activate it, an electromagnet is activated that keeps the ball in play, if it has been activated correctly. However, it must be re-activated after each use by pressing all drops once.

MagnoLock

If enabled, the player can shoot the balls up a ramp via the middle orbit, the balls are then placed in a container by a magnetic arm , the so-called MagnoLock , which can hold up to 3 balls. Depending on the mode, a multiball with 3 or 4 balls can be created.

The operating menu

A special feature of Timeshock is that there is an operating menu. There you can activate each individual pinball mechanism and change basic settings, such as: B. the number of balls per game, but this is not possible while the game is running.

The ULTRA Edition

Barnstorm Games, the owner of Silverball Studios , is a company made up of the original developers of Pro Pinball . Barnstorm Games launched a Kickstarter.com crowdfunding campaign in September 2013 aimed at re-launching all four tables. At first, however, the developers only wanted to concentrate on a new edition of Timeshock - the Timeshock! - The ULTRA Edition . The target was £ 40,000, they reached £ 49,349. The new version should appear on the platforms Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Xbox Live and Linux. The lighting and the movement of the ball should become more realistic, and there should also be a new feature, the glass off mode . If you activate this feature, you should be able to move the ball over the table with the mouse. The IOS and Android beta versions have been completed, but most of them are currently only available to people who supported the Kickstarter campaign at the time. An exception is the Android version, which is available on Amazon and is currently available free of charge.

Windows version

The first version of the ULTRA Edition for Windows was made available to supporters in December 2015. The current version 1.2.3 was released in summer 2016. It is also generally available on Steam .
