ProfiFoto , the magazine for professional photography , is a monthly trade journal .
The professional photo magazine ProfiFoto emerged in 1979 from the trade magazine Fachkontakt . The professional contact first appeared in 1969 in GFW Verlag Düsseldorf (Society for specialist books and advertising printing mbH). The editor in charge of the first edition was Ludwig Knülle, who passed this position on to Volker Wachs in 1971. From 1976 to 1979 Rainer Schilling took over the editorial management.
With the 1/1979 issue, the specialist contact was renamed ProfiFoto. The new title documents the close connection between the trade journal and its readership. From the very beginning, the editorial articles focus on creative, technical, cultural and professional aspects of professional photography. ProfiFoto was the official organ of the Central Association of German Photographers from 1979 to 1991 . The editor in charge of ProfiFoto was initially Jürgen G. Gumprich, who handed over editorial responsibility to Thomas Gerwers with the 6/1990 edition of ProfiFoto.
ProfiFoto has been one of the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) member magazines since 1991. ProfiFoto editor-in-chief Thomas Gerwers has held one of the board posts since 1998, and has been CEO of TIPA since 2008. In 1996 ProfiFoto Online was launched, in 1997 the ProfiFoto Spezial was introduced on special topics as a “booklet within a booklet”. ProfiFoto has been published by GFW PhotoPublishing GmbH in Düsseldorf since 2002, six times a year until September 2005, then the frequency was increased to ten issues a year. ProfiFoto has been editorially supported by the GRG editorial office since 1996.
In 2001 ProfiFoto appeared for the first time with an enclosed multimedia CD-ROM. The ProfiFoto Interactive App for iPad has been available since 2010. Since 2012 ProfiFoto has been available as a cross-platform e-paper in addition to the printed version.
