Proficy iFIX

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Proficy iFIX is a PC-based visualization application ( SCADA system) from GE Intelligent Platforms . In 1984 the software was first published by the company Intellution ( Emerson Group) under the name The Fix . In 2002 iFIX was added to the GE Fanuc product portfolio with the takeover of Intellution.

description

The iFIX visualization application (current version 6.0) enables the monitoring and control of technical processes and, as a human-machine interface, provides the necessary elements for operating and monitoring machines / systems. Further essential product features are the acquisition and long-term data storage of measured values, the acquisition, storage and visualization of alarms and messages, as well as existing data interfaces to external systems and a batch system for recipe operation.

iFIX is implemented as a modular client-server system that runs on different versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system . The possible applications range from simple single-computer systems in which the client and server software modules run on one hardware unit, to complex systems with a large number of distributed hardware units. The HMI / SCADA server software module implements the connection to the process via interfaces to external systems, for example programmable logic controllers or directly to measuring devices . It is also used for central data storage. The iClient and iClientTS modules implement the actual graphic human-machine interface with various optional extensions such as trend curve display or logging.

Areas of application

Typical areas of application for the software are:

  • Production systems in the chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry or food industry, both for continuous processes and for batch processes.
  • Process visualization and control in power plants, oil and gas plants, for water treatment and in sewage treatment plants.
  • Discrete HMI units in production systems such as in the automotive or automotive supplier industry.
  • Traffic control technology as an information system for monitoring highways, tunnel systems or parking guidance systems.
  • Building control technology.
  • MES client.
  • BDE, MDE, PDE client with integrated interface to the factory-wide, historical database Proficy Historian.
  • Web visualization.
  • Visualization for SAP data in production.

distribution

iFIX is published in English, German, French, Polish, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. The main market for the software is in the USA. In German-speaking countries, iFIX is mainly used by companies whose headquarters are in the USA. The iFIX graphics module is used as the basis in the DeltaV process control system from Emerson. DeltaV is mainly used in complex, multi-line, multi-purpose systems. GE Fanuc has been trying to position itself since 2005, especially in the Asian region; in 2005, one of the world's largest SCADA environments with around 500,000 data points was set up in Singapore. In connection with the takeover of Intellution by GE Fanuc, the number of installations worldwide was put at around 185,000.
