overview

Development of PMP-certified project managers 1995–2008

The exam for the PMP exam is carried out by the PMI as a computer test. It is based on the PMP Examination Content Outline. While the underlying standard “ A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge ” (PMBOK Guide) is process-oriented, the examination guidelines are based on the individual tasks of the project manager.

After successfully completing the test, graduates are entitled to use the abbreviation PMP after their name.

exam

course

200 questions ( multiple choice ) must be answered within four hours . There are four possible answers to each question, of which exactly one is correct. Sometimes multiple answers seem to be correct. If there is more than one possible answer that is fundamentally correct, the question is B. to select the best possible. The participants must correctly answer a corresponding percentage of the questions according to a weighted evaluation process. This passing score has not been published by the PMI since 2006. Until 2006 it was 69%, currently (2009) it is (unconfirmed, since no longer published) at 81%. 175 of the 200 questions are scored. The remaining 25 questions are new questions from the PMI, which may be added to the test question pool at a later date. At the time of the exam, the candidate does not know what it is - all 200 questions must be answered. The test result will be announced to the participants immediately after the test has been completed. Participants who do not pass the exam straight away are given the opportunity to take a repeat test without having to repeat the admission procedure.

Content

To answer the questions in the exam, knowledge from the PMBOK Guide is required. On the other hand, transfer payments from real day-to-day project work are necessary. For example, a project situation is described from which one must deduce which phase according to PMBOK one is currently in. Only with this knowledge can you choose the correct answer. In the third requirement area, questions on topics of general knowledge from the further topic of project management must be answered. One such topic could be Maslow's hierarchy of needs .

validity

PMP status is granted for a period of three years. To be recertified beyond this period, PMPs must collect 60 PDUs (Professional Development Units) to renew their status for the next three-year cycle. One PDU corresponds to one hour of training. PDUs can be acquired, for example, through participation in training courses, specialist events or through self-study. These learning units are not checked.
