Tango (platform)
Tango (during the development of Project Tango ) was developed by Google as a technology platform to enable mobile devices such as tablet computers or smartphones to use machine vision to determine their position relative to the outside world without GPS or other signal-based positioning. This allowed developers to create mobile apps with functions such as interior navigation, measurement of real objects or applications for augmented or virtual reality .
In January 2016 Google announced at the Consumer Electronics Show a partnership with Lenovo to release a smartphone with Project Tango method and ToF-camera for under 500 dollars on.
In August 2017, Google announced that the Tango project would be replaced by the ARCore augmented reality platform , as ARCore does not require any additional equipment. In the meantime, the project's webpage has also been switched off.
