Protomodern

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term protomodern was introduced in order to conceptually grasp early stages of development of modernity and thresholds of its constitution or perception even before 1800. Because after the insight into the relativity of all epochs ascriptions, the questions of modernity must also be asked for earlier and supposedly more traditional, non-modern periods of time . Behind the concept of protomodern is the question of the relationship between premodern developments and the manifestations of modernity in later times. Last but not least, the term protomodern is intended to stimulate a new definition of concepts such as premodern , premodern or second modern , without being thought of as stalled itself.
