Brian Ernest Talbot (born July 21, 1953 in Ipswich ) is a former English football player and football coach.
life and career
Player career
Talbot began his career at Ipswich Town in the youth team. In the period from 1968 to 1979, when he was under contract with Ipswich, the Englishman was temporarily loaned to Canada to the Toronto Metros. After the short trip to North America , Talbot won the 1978 FA Cup with the Blue. A year later, the midfielder moved to Arsenal for a transfer fee of £ 450,000. He immediately won his second English Cup with the Gunners in 1979. Talbot's greatest strengths were his stamina and fitness. After the end of his contract with the Gunners, he played for a short time at Watford FC , Stoke City , West Bromwich Albion , Fulham FC, Aldershot FC and Sudbury Town. He was also president of the UK players' union from 1984 to 1988. Internationally, he played once for the English national football team . Talbot ended his active career in 1993.
Coaching career
Talbot's first coaching station was West Bromwich Albion , where he worked as a player-coach. He later trained as a player-coach for FC Aldershot. In 1991 he came to Hibernians, a club from the small Mediterranean island of Malta . With the Maltese he won the national championship in 1993 and 1994. He returned to England three years after his last title and coached Rushden & Diamonds from Irthlingborough for seven years . Under his leadership, the team rose in 2003 to the third highest English league. After brief appearances at Oldham Athletic and Oxford United , he returned to Malta in 2006 and coached Marsaxlokk FC from 2006 to 2008, with whom he was Maltese champion for the third time in 2007. Between 2008 and February 2011 he was the club's technical director.
In February 2011 Talbot became a scout for the English Premier League club Fulham, where he was already active as a player in 1990/91. At the Cottagers, Talbot is mainly responsible for monitoring players in the major European leagues, for example in Germany and France .
