Protophytes

As protophytes which is level of organization of unicellular algae and fungi called, analogous to the protozoa , with whom it to the protists are counted. The term is rarely used today.

Algae and fungi are no longer counted among the plants , but are traditionally part of botany and were previously assigned to plants. The meaning of the term Protophyta varies widely in the literature. Finally , the algae and lichens of the Thallophyta and the fern plants among the Kormophyta belong to the Protophyta . In 1889 Haeckel distinguished between the unicellular protophyta and the tissue-forming metaphyta. Čelakovsky used the term protophytes in 1897 in the sense of thallophytes .
