Proud Iceland is a small, high-rise at the northern end and tussock grass -covered island off the western end of South Georgia . It is at the eastern end of the Willis Islands .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations roughly mapped them between 1960 and 1961. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them descriptively in 1963. It is named after the term “standing proud” from British naval jargon, which means something like “to stand tall”.
