Provikar

The title Provikar is an ecclesiastical honorary title for merited priests, which is bestowed by the bishop . A provicar is, like a vicar general , the bishop's deputy.

Provicer Carl Lampert

A well-known provicer was Carl Lampert from the Diocese of Innsbruck . In 1944 he fell victim to the National Socialist dictatorship in Germany because he had been involved in resistance against the Nazi regime and advocated Christian values. His beatification took place in 2011 in the Austrian city of Dornbirn .
