Proximity (horse)

Proximity (1942–1966) was a successful American Standardbred - trotting mare . She was driven and trained by Clint Hodgins. Hodgins was later inducted into the Canadian and American Halls of Fame for Harness Racing. It was owned by Ralph and Gordon Verhurst.

In 1975, Proximity was inducted into the Harness Racing Hall of Fame . The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in Goshen, New York , is dedicated to the history of harness racing and serves as the Hall of Fame for the American Standardbred. The Hall of Fame committee named Proximity one of the greatest trotters of all time.

Proximity won regularly against stallions and geldings, for example the Golden West Trot of 1950 and the American Trotting Championship of 1947 and 1950. She won a total of $ 252,929. That is the highest winnings that a trotter had ever won at the time.

Proximity died on Castleton Farm in Lexington, Kentucky in 1966 at the age of 24 .
